Ashenreach Awaits You

Tired of SMPs where everyone is practically invincible?
Tired of servers with no real conflict, no risk, no history?

Ashenreach is a long-term Minecraft survival server built around exploration, tension, and player-driven story. This isn't a minigame server. It isn't a seasonal wipe server. The world is persistent โ€” what you build, conquer, lose, or destroy matters.

You can play Minecraft normally: build, explore, travel, form alliances. But the world is intentionally made to reward preparation, positioning, and decision-making โ€” not just maxed out netherite gear.

Wiki

Everything you need to know about life on Ashenreach.

Banner Economy

Banners are the server's primary resource โ€” used to claim land and recruit new members.

Production

Banners are produced automatically over time โ€” you don't need to mine or craft the old way.

Every 60 seconds, the server adds banners to your house's stockpile based on your production rate:

House TypeProduction Rate
Founding house24 banners/day
Cadet branch8 banners/day
Cadet penaltyโˆ’4 banners/day per split (floor: 1)

Production accumulates in real time, even when you're offline. The stockpile caps at 100 banners.

Crafting Banners

All vanilla banner recipes are removed. The only way to get a physical banner is:

  1. Craft white banners: 6 Emerald Blocks + 1 Stick โ†’ 1 White Banner
  2. Dye them: 1 White Banner + 1 Dye โ†’ 1 Coloured Banner (any of 16 colours)

To craft from your house's stockpile, you must:

  • Be the leader or a lord of your dynasty
  • Be holding your dynasty's Seal
  • Have banners available in the stockpile
  • Wait 1 second between crafts (per-player cooldown)

The Dynasty Seal

Each dynasty has one Dynasty Seal โ€” a Nether Star bound to that house.

  • Required to craft banners from stockpile.
  • Indestructible โ€” cannot be burned, blown up, or despawned.
  • Drops on death โ€” it can be stolen.
  • The leader holds it by default but can pass it to a trusted member.
Warning Losing the seal doesn't permanently break your house โ€” it just means the thief controls your crafting until you get it back.

Spending Banners

Banners are consumed when:

  1. Claiming land โ€” placing a banner claims a chunk (see Land Claims)
  2. Recruiting โ€” white banners are used to invite new players (see Recruitments)
  3. Supporting cadets โ€” gifting banners to a new cadet branch
  4. Trade โ€” banners can be traded between players

Run /dynasty to check your house's production status.

Disguise

Wearing leather armour gives you anonymity. Each piece has a different effect.

Armour PieceEffect
HelmetYour nametag is hidden
ChestplateYou become invisible
LeggingsYou get an alias; your identity is hidden on the tab list
BootsYou get an alias; your chat name is replaced

Aliases

When disguised (leggings or boots), you're assigned one of these aliases:

Possible Aliases Stranger, Shadow, Ghost, Unknown, Phantom, Wanderer, Rogue, Specter, Nomad, Outlaw

The alias replaces your real name in chat and on the tab list.

Invisibility

With a leather chestplate equipped, you receive the invisibility potion effect. Players can still hear you and see your name if you're not wearing the full set.

Mix and Match

You don't need the full set. Each piece works independently:

  • Helmet only โ€” hidden nametag, visible player
  • Chestplate only โ€” invisible player, visible nametag
  • Boots only โ€” alias in chat, visible player

Detection

There's no counter-measure built in. If you suspect someone is disguised, look for:

  • A name you don't recognise in chat or tab
  • A player wearing visibly coloured leather armour
  • Particles or movement that seem off

Dynasties

Dynasties (also called houses) are the core social unit of Ashenreach. Every player belongs to one.

Founding Houses

Minecraft has 16 banner colours. White is permanently disabled as a house colour, meaning there are exactly 15 founding houses โ€” a hard limit. Founding slots are assigned by application, not race-to-claim.

Each founding house starts with a blank banner in its unique colour and a Dynasty Seal (Nether Star) required for crafting.

Cadet Branches

A dynasty can split when one of its members recruits 5 or more people into their personal downline, creating a cadet branch. Cadet banners add one new pattern layer to the parent's banner.

Effects of a cadet split:

  • The parent house permanently loses 4 banners/day (floor of 1).
  • The cadet starts with 8 banners/day.
  • The founder's downline resets to zero.

Cadet branches can spawn further cadets, up to 4 generations deep.

Dynasty Ranks

RankPrivileges
LeaderFull control. Transfers leadership, promotes/demotes lords, holds the Dynasty Seal.
LordCan craft banners from stockpile. Appointed by the leader.
MemberDefault rank. Build in claimed territory, use containers, recruit new players.

Run /dynasty to check your rank.

Leaving a Dynasty

Get invited to another house and accept. Your recruitment downline stays with your old house and your cadet-split progress resets to zero. This is the primary check on bad leadership.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Ashenreach.

How do I join the server?

You need an invitation from an existing player. They right-click you with a white banner, and you run /accept. There's no other way in.

How do I start my own house?

You can't create a brand new founding house โ€” there are only 15 slots, assigned by application. But you can split off as a cadet branch once you've recruited 5 people under you.

How do I claim land?

Place a banner of your dynasty's colour on the ground. The chunk becomes yours. It must be adjacent to existing claims.

Why can't I craft banners?

All vanilla banner recipes are removed. Banners produce automatically into your house's stockpile. Only leaders and lords can craft from stockpile, and they need the Dynasty Seal.

How does healing work?

Stand near a lit campfire with no armour equipped. You heal 1 HP per second. Each campfire gives 10 HP before going out.

How do I hide my identity?

Wear leather armour. Helmet hides your nametag, chestplate makes you invisible, leggings and boots give you an alias.

How do I talk only to my house?

Use /chat house. Switch back with /chat global.

Can I leave my dynasty?

Yes โ€” get invited by another house and /accept. Your recruits stay with your old house and you lose downline progress.

Can I overthrow my leader?

No. There is no voting or coup mechanic. If you don't like your leader, leave and take your recruiting potential elsewhere.

What's the point of recruiting?

Every player you recruit goes into your downline. At 5 downline you can form your own cadet branch. Bigger downline = more political influence.

What happens if my house runs out of banner stockpile?

Production continues every 60 seconds up to the 100-banner cap. If at zero, you can't claim land or recruit until more accumulate.

How do I check my house's stats?

Run /dynasty โ€” shows role, member count, claimed chunks, parent house, and production status.

Can I trade banners with other houses?

Yes. Banners are physical items you can give, trade, or sell to other players.

Getting Started

How to join Ashenreach and your first steps once you're in.

Joining the Server

You can't join Ashenreach without an invitation. The only way in is to be invited by an existing whitelisted player.

  1. An existing player holds a white banner and right-clicks you.
  2. A chat prompt appears โ€” run /accept to join their dynasty, or /decline to refuse.
  3. Once you accept, you're whitelisted. You can now log in freely.
Don't know anyone? Ask in the community Discord for an invitation.

Your First Minutes

Allowed as a new member:

  • Move, chat, take damage
  • Build and break blocks inside your dynasty's claimed territory
  • Use containers in claimed territory
  • Run /accept, /decline, and /dynasty

Blocked until fully recruited:

  • Breaking or placing blocks outside your dynasty's claims
  • Picking up items or interacting with blocks outside claims
  • Attacking other players (PvP)

First Steps

  1. Check your house โ€” run /dynasty to see your dynasty's name, role, member count, territory, and banner production.
  2. Talk to your house โ€” use /chat house to speak only to your dynasty.
  3. Learn the land โ€” walk around to see territory borders (coloured particles and titles mark each house's claims).
  4. Start recruiting โ€” the fastest way to gain influence is to bring in new players under you.

Quick Tips

  • Run /dynasty often to check your house's banner stockpile.
  • Don't wander into other dynasties' claimed territory without permission.
  • Campfires heal you if you take off your armour.
  • Wear leather armour to hide your identity.

Healing

There's no natural health regeneration out in the field. Use campfires instead.

How It Works

  1. Find or place a campfire and light it with Flint and Steel.
  2. Take off all armour (helmet, chestplate, leggings, boots).
  3. Stand within 3 blocks of the lit campfire.
  4. You heal 1 HP per second until fully healed.

Each campfire provides 10 HP (5 hearts) of total healing before extinguishing. Relight with Flint and Steel to use it again.

Why This Exists

Campfire healing replaces natural regeneration. It's meant to:

  • Force players to prepare before venturing out
  • Make camps and forward bases valuable
  • Create a reason to build infrastructure in your territory
  • Give a small advantage to defenders who control their own turf

Tips

  • Place campfires at strategic points in your territory.
  • Carry Flint and Steel to relight campfires you find in the wild.
  • Remove your armour before standing near a campfire โ€” the check is for all four slots.

Land Claims

Territory is claimed and controlled through banners.

Claiming a Chunk

  1. Hold a banner of your dynasty's colour.
  2. Right-click to place it on the ground.
  3. The chunk is now claimed by your dynasty.

Requirements: Banner must match your dynasty's colour and patterns. The chunk must be adjacent to an existing claim. Your house must have enough banner stockpile.

Unclaiming

Break the placed banner to release the chunk from your dynasty's control.

Territory Awareness

When you cross between chunks owned by different dynasties, a title appears with the house name and coloured particles burst around you.

Leadership

Every dynasty has one Leader (Head of House) and can have multiple Lords.

The Leader

The leader has full control: transfer leadership, promote/demote lords, hold or delegate the Dynasty Seal.

Transferring Leadership

  1. /leader transfer <player> โ€” starts the transfer
  2. /leader confirm <player> โ€” confirms and completes it

The Dynasty Seal is automatically transferred to the new leader.

What Happens if a Leader is Inactive?

There is no automatic timeout or vote-kick. If a leader goes inactive, an admin handles it manually. The real check on bad leadership is attrition โ€” unhappy members can leave, taking their recruiting potential with them.

Lords

Lords can craft banners from the house stockpile. Appointed by the leader only.

  • /leader promote <player> Promote a member to lord
  • /leader demote <player> Demote a lord to member
Remember There's no voting, no coup mechanic. If you want change, you recruit, you split, or you leave.

Recruitment

Every player on Ashenreach was invited by someone else. There are no join codes or automated sign-ups.

Inviting a Player

  1. Hold a white banner in your main hand.
  2. Right-click the uninitiated player.
  3. One white banner is consumed.
  4. The player receives a prompt to run /accept or /decline.

If they accept, they join your dynasty as a member and are added to your recruitment tree โ€” you become their patron.

Accepting an Invitation

  • /accept Joins their dynasty, becomes whitelisted
  • /decline Refuses the invitation, nothing changes

The Recruitment Tree

Every invitation creates a permanent record: who invited whom. The tree is visible in chat hover tooltips, in Discord via /dynasty commands, and to leaders tracking downline for cadet splits.

Downline

Your downline is everyone you recruited directly, plus everyone they recruited. Downline size matters:

  • 5 downline = you qualify to form a cadet branch
  • Losing members to other dynasties shrinks your downline
  • Leaving a dynasty resets your downline to zero

Tips for Recruiters

  • Recruit people you trust โ€” they become part of your permanent lineage.
  • The more people you bring in, the closer you get to founding your own cadet branch.
  • White banners cost stockpile to craft โ€” recruit wisely.
  • A big downline is political power, even before any cadet split.
